Another huge Oral Argument happens today. CARSON v. MAKIN is a case out of Maine that will determine whether or not a State can prohibit a family from choosing a religious school for their children as part of a school choice program.
If a state offers school choice (which all states should), then religious schools should not be excluded as an option for families.
Parents should have the right to choose the school that best fits their own ideology and the learning style of their child. Going as far back as educating minorities when it was illegal to do so, religious schools have a rich history of providing education to the poor and disadvantaged.
In addition, many parents want their children to be educated according to their own faith tradition. Further, some children may be better served by the style of education offered at a school in their area that just happens to be a faith-based educational institution. If a state offers school choice (which all states should), then religious schools should not be excluded as an option for families.
Join me today in praying for our Supreme Court as they hear arguments in this very important case that will shape the landscape of education for generations to come.
