It has been said the greatest of performers have one thing in common. Consistency. That’s right. Being great is not about always being the best. It is not about being head and shoulders above all your competitions. It is simply about consistently being better than average.
That said, what does your 2019 look like thus far? Have you started with the ferocity of a grizzly but fear that in a few days you are going to have the enthusiasm of Pooh?
Perhaps, you have already messed up a time or two. Maybe you already blew your calorie goal, forgot to do your devotional one morning, or only got up once without hitting the snooze a time or two. Despite setting out to be intentional about 2019, you have nonetheless found yourself falling into some of your same old tame wasting habits of last year.
If that’s you, I have the solution. Give up.
No seriously, it is time for you to give up. Don’t give up on your goals. Give up on the idea that you are simply going to start a new way of thinking and living without missing the mark a time or two.
16 For a righteous man may fall seven times And rise again, But the wicked shall fall by calamity. –Proverbs 24:16 (NKJV)
If you missed your goal today… the scoreboard resets tomorrow.
You didn’t do your devotion yesterday? Ok, get it done today.
You didn’t plan today yesterday? There is still time to plan tomorrow, today.
You fell for the same old time wasters. Great, you have identified something that needs to be fixed. Now is a great time to start.
You see, there will never become a time that you no longer have to actively apply yourself to accomplishing the goals and callings in your life. You haven’t arrived. And guess what you won’t have it all figured out tomorrow either. However, there are some things you can do. You can recognize the areas you are struggling in. Identify your weaknesses and overcome them.
Identify and overcome. That is your mantra.
What got you yesterday will not get you today. And remember, it’s one day at a time.
The sun came up.
You woke up.
It’s time to go after it.
