Pranking Themselves? 10 Quick Ways to Explain How Atheism is Foolish

It’s April Fools’ Day… You may have already been pranked, or are planning your own epic “gotcha.” As you enjoy, or endure, the day, remember the most foolish thing a person can do is to reject the reality of God’s existence. The idea that the cosmos accidentally appeared with no creator is not merely a philosophical position; it is a catastrophic failure in logic. Anyone who truly examines the facts will discover that atheism cannot withstand the weight of the evidence. Here are 10 reasons why you should never be fooled by atheism:

1. CAUSALITY. Everything that begins to exist has a cause. The universe, including space and time, began to exist at some point. To believe “nothing” caused “everything” is more foolish than believing a rabbit really “appeared” in an empty hat. The cause of the universe must be uncaused, spaceless, and timeless. That sounds like God.

2. ANTHROPIC PRINCIPLE. Like a watch requires a watchmaker, the precise design of the universe means that the odds of it occurring by chance are effectively nonexistent. Design requires a designer.

3. DNA. A sophisticated digital code with over 3 billion base pairs coming from chaotic matter is akin to thinking an explosion at a keyboard factory could produce letters arranged in a perfect encyclopedia set. Code requires a Coder.

4. MORAL LAW. If there are objective moral laws—if harming children or hurting the innocent is wrong, if anything is objectively evil and not just a preference—there must be an objective moral law. Law requires a lawgiver.

5. REASON. If your brain is simply a collection of chemical reactions made up of evolved matter interacting, then you have no basis to trust your own thoughts, including the thought that there is no God. Atheism defeats itself unless you do not think about it.

6. CONTINGENCY. Everything is contingent; it does not have to exist. You cannot have an infinite regression of contingencies; eventually, there must be a non-contingent being—a necessary being that is the groundwork for all existence. Sounds like God again!

7. MATH. Maybe you aren’t a fan of math, but you cannot deny that the universe obeys laws of mathematics that transcend people and language. In fact, higher math was discovered because of a belief that the universe, being created, must be rational. Rational, transcendent mathematics require a rational, transcendent Creator.

8. TRUTH. Truth is absolute. To say there are no absolute truths is to make a truth-claim that must be absolute to be true. Much like how saying “we can only know things through science” is not a scientific statement, atheism is filled with absurd contradictions.

9. DESIRE. C.S. Lewis said “If I find in myself a desire which no experience in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that I was made for another world.”

10. THE RESURRECTION. It is a historical event with forensic evidence that has never been debunked. Even when considering only facts that are agreed upon by atheist scholars, the Resurrection is the most reasonable logical conclusion to the available evidence. If Jesus rose from the dead, the debate is over.

On a day that celebrates foolishness, don’t let yourself base your eternity on absurd and illogical fancies. Instead, examine the facts and face the logical reality: God is real. Now, ask yourself what that means for you.
