Last night, the world lurched forward down a path that seemed inevitable, that could have been prevented, but that is here nonetheless. As the U.S. and Israel launch attacks against the Iranian regime—an action necessitated by Iran’s refusal to abandon its mission to obtain nuclear weapons and its calls to destroy the U.S. and Israel—the Church has a profound duty: we must pray.
We never celebrate war and know that God does not delight in the destruction of life. War is a grim reality that reminds us that our world is broken by sin. However, we do recognize that God ordained government to bear the sword and restrain evil. A nuclear-armed regime, sworn to the destruction of the West and the Jewish people, is a threat that cannot go unanswered. These actions, though undesired, may be necessary to prevent far greater tragedy.
Understanding this, our role is now to be intercessors. We must pray for the men and women who serve our nation (and their families), many of whom are our brothers and sisters in Christ. We must pray for the peace of Jerusalem. Pray that their mission is successful, that they are protected, and that this action is swift and final. WE MUST PRAY FOR THE IRANIAN PEOPLE. The ordinary citizens of Iran are the most affected victims of this regime. We pray that, in the middle of this chaotic moment, the revival that has been occurring among the people of Iran continues and the Gospel flourishes. Jesus can do what no army can; He can change hearts.
Let us turn from the news, social media, and the noise of the world. Instead, let us turn to prayer. Nations may rage, but God is still seated on the throne.
Would you join me in praying today?
